According to the reports, the BCCI is likely to allow 100% crowd for the day-night test match at Bengaluru. The Mohali test match witnessed a 50% crowd and the same was planned for the Bengaluru test match also. The Mohali test match was Kohli’s 100th test match and former great Sunil Gavaskar urged the BCCI for allowing 100% crowd capacity as the match was a special occasion for Kohli.
India thrashed the Lankan side by an innings and 222 runs due to strong batting and spin bowling, especially by Ravindra Jadeja.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the decision to allow more spectators came after approval from the state government. There were also reports of high demands of the tickets which played a key role in allowing a 100% crowd capacity.
“Considering the high volume of response and since there are no further restrictions for spectators, KSCA will be opening up sale of tickets for the full capacity of the stadium,” stated an official release from the association.
The Covid cases have significantly died down in India in recent days. The third wave has not arrived or has gone without affecting the majority of the people.
The Bengaluru test match was slated to host Kohli’s 100th test match but upon the request of the Sri Lankan team for a direct flight to Colombo after the tour, the 1st test match was shifted to Mohali. Kohli has been a local boy for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as the player has been associated with the franchise since the beginning of IPL.
India has already secured the series for a draw at least and given the current state of performance and mindset of the Sri Lankan players, it is very likely that the Indian team will replicate the same dominating performance. Rohit Sharma has received praises for his tactics. The second test match will start on 12th March and will be a day-nighter. India earlier thrashed the Lankan side in the T20s also by 3 – 0.
