Aakash Chopra points why India is unlikely to qualify for World Test Championship

India was the runners up in the 2021 World Test Championship. The Indian team remained on top of the points table but lost the final to New Zealand. The next WTC cycle will see a conclusion in the year 2022 but cricket analyst Aakash Chopra believes that the Indian team is unlikely to make it to the WTC final this time.

India is currently at the fifth position in the WTC cycle behind Australia (77.77), Pakistan (66.66), Sri Lanka (66.66), and South Africa (60). India will likely produce another dominating performance against Sri Lanka and clinch the series 2 – 0. India then has a one-off test match in England, followed by a Bangladesh tour where they will be favorites. Then there will be a four-match series against the Australians in India where India has to win by 4 – 0. And Chopra believes that the task may be too much for team India this time.

“In the four-match series against Australia, India needs to win all four games. “You can’t draw; you have to win all four games. We’ll probably win 2-0 versus Sri Lanka.” We’ll have to play Bangladesh on the road, but I’m convinced we’ll win. And then there was the one-time Test versus England. It won’t be easy because we lost the series in South Africa.” Chopra said in his Youtube channel.

The Cricket Analyst believes that the title is likely to be played out between Pakistan and Australia this time. India is deliberately playing a lesser amount of test matches this year as they are more focused on winning the T20 format and hence an ICC tournament, something which India has been desperately trying to win since 2013.

With the change in leadership and coach, fans believe that India will display a spiriting performance in the knock-out matches of the ICC tournaments, something which they haven’t been able to do under Kohli’s and Shastri’s leadership.
