England Cricket had plenty to ponder after their Ashes humiliation despite having a nearly full-strength side leaving out Jofra Archer and Ollie Stone. While Silverwood has received support from England captain, there is no doubt that the sword is hanging on his head. The assistant coach, Graham Thorpe seems to be next in the queue too!
If reports are to believed that Silverwood and Thorpe are likely to be fired this week and ECB will hunt for another coach. While finding a better alternative could take months, England would be in a need of an interim coach if Silverwood and Thorpe faces the wrath of the ECB.
England have to depart to West Indies for the test series starting from the 1st of March. For the interim coach, Alec Stewart is being considered as the optimal replacement and the former keeper-batsman is keen on restoring the harmony to the English dressing room with his short stint.
Stewart is currently the director of Cricket at Surrey county and was one of the potential candidate of becoming England’s head coach on previous occasions. It was reported that England Cricket Board wanted Stewart in 2019 after Trevor Bayliss but the former captain did not accept the offer owing to family reasons that paved the way for Silverwood to become the coach.
