BCCI is ‘sarkar’ : Harbhajan takes a dig at former BCCI selection committee

Known for his resilience and zeal on the field, Harbhajan Singh recently took part in a chat with Cricketnext. The former off-spinner who retired recently talked about many things, including his equation with MS Dhoni, to which he replied that he is not married to him.

Harbhajan talked about the time when he started getting neglected from the BCCI after the 2011 World Cup. “I have complaint to the BCCI, the sarkar (government) of that time. I call BCCI as sarkar.” said Harbhajan and also cleared the air about his friendship with Dhoni that “I have no complaints against MS. In fact, he has been a good friend all these years”. Harbhajan played the last ODI and T20 in 2015 and 2016 respectively but retired recently from all forms of the cricket in December 2021.

After Mumbai Indians parted their ways with Harbhajan Singh in the IPL, he played for Chennai Super Kings under Dhoni. After the 2011 World Cup, there appeared a deliberate intent from the BCCI to focus more on R. Ashwin and the off-spinner haven’t forgotten the neglect yet.

“The selectors of that time didn’t do justice to their roles. They didn’t allow the team to be united. What was the point of bringing in new guys when the greats were still around and delivering? I once confronted the selectors on this and their reply was it wasn’t in their hands and then I asked why they are the selectors, then?” said Harbhajan.

The selection committee was headed by Mohinder Amarnath in 2012 who wanted Dhoni to be removed from Captaincy but the decision was overturned by N. Srinivasan, the head of the BCCI during that time.
