This batsman can be India’s middle-order batsman that India has been searching for feels Irfan Pathan

The former fast bowler Irfan Pathan feels that Deepak Hooda is a good call into the Indian setup. The batting all-rounder has been included in the ODI team for the West Indies series and Irfan Pathan believes that Hooda can be a great inclusion in India’s middle-order set up which has been shaky for many years.

“So what do you want in a middle-order batter? Can you maneuver the strike? Can you take Singles and Doubles regularly? Yes, he can because he’s got outstanding wrists.” Irfan Pathan said.

It was in the 2017 Champions Trophy final when India desperately felt the need for a strong middle-order when Team India was almost out of the chase when the top three got out cheaply. The middle-order woes were apparent when India faltered against New Zealand in the 2019 semi-final despite a target of 240 runs in challenging conditions.

Hooda had an argument in 2021 with Krunal Pandya, the captain of the Baroda. The matter elevated so much that Hooda was suspended by the Baroda Cricket Association and the player then went on to play for Rajasthan. The CA secretary Ajit Lele later admitted that the matter between Pandya and Hooda could have been handled better.

Deepak Hooda was selected for the Indian T20 side back in 2017 but did not get the chance. After joining Rajasthan Cricket Association, Hooda scored many runs and was the second-highest run-getter for the 2021 – 22 season which has led to his call up in the Indian T20 squad. Rajasthan Cricket officials couldn’t have been more proud of the batsman. “We feel proud that he was able to do well for us which helped him get picked for India,” RCA secretary Mahender Sharma told PTI.
