In what could be termed as a heartfelt tribute, Chennai Super Kings paid much deserving respect to their consistent performer Suresh Raina. Known as ‘Chinna Thaala’ (the right hand of the leader), Raina went unsold in this year’s IPL Auction and now has requested the BCCI to let him play in other T20 leagues which are restricted for IPL contracted players.
Raina has been a proven performer for the CSK team right from the beginning and was often touted as the right hand of the leader Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The player played 195 innings and amassed 5529 runs at an average of 33.10, which also included 2 hundreds and a staggering 38 half centuries. He was also awarded the player of the match on 15 occasions.
Kasi Viswanath, who is the CEO of Chennai Super Kings heaped praises and thanked the player for his services. “Raina has been one of the most consistent performer for the CSK in the last 10 – 12 years.” said the CEO
“Actually, he has been a great ambassador of IPL and with CSK he has done a great great contribution.” said Lakshmipathy Balaji, the bowling coach for CSK.
Raina was expected to be picked up by the CSK in this years’ auction. The CSK CEO stated that the player may not have fitted into this year’s team composition. Suresh Raina interestingly announced retirement from the International cricket during the same time when MS Dhoni announced.
“Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for CSK for the last 12 years. Of course, it was very difficult for us, not to have Raina but at the same time, you should also understand that the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have so that’s one of the reasons why we thought he may not fit into this team,”. The CEO had said earlier in the Team’ official You tube channel.
