Dinesh Karthik recalls Dhoni’s take on split-captaincy

India will begin a new journey under the full-time leadership of Rohit Sharma from the home series against West Indies. The Indian team has went through a lot in the last few months. From coach, captaincy changes to communication barriers, everyone in the cricketing fraternity are well aware that the recent discussions haven’t happened smoothly between Kohli and BCCI. Kohli relinquished the T20 captaincy but said that he wants to continue leading the side in the other formats.

Talking to ANI, Karthik was about the sudden resignation of Virat from the test captaincy, to which the keeper-batsman replied that it is hard to comment on the matter but recalled Dhoni’s opinion about the split-captaincy from earlier days.

“It is ‘hard’ to have split captaincy in Indian cricket. I remember MS Dhoni saying very clearly that India as a cricketing nation is very hard to have split captaincy,”

Eyebrows were raised when BCCI demoted Kohli from the captaincy. While the BCCI chief told the leading publications that Kohli was insisted to stay on as captain of T20 side as the selectors weren’t in favor of white-ball split captaincy, Kohli denied that such discussion did not took place.

The wicket-keeper batsman who did not got too much chance in the Indian side as Dhoni cemented his place quite early, heaped praises on the tenure of Virat Kohli and that he was proud to have been a part of his team. The 36 year old last played for India in the 2019 World cup semi-final against New Zealand.
