In what could be termed as a disappointment for the Pakistani fans, David Warner, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have reportedly opted out of the ODI leg of the Pakistani tour. Australia are to play 3 Tests, 3 ODIs and a single T20. The test matches will run from 4th March to 25th March. It is believed that the players are rested. While one could think that the players were probably needing a rest in order to join the IPL, Cricket Australia laid that to rest when it was announced that the contracted players will not be released to join the early stage of the Indian Premier League.
“we certainly won’t be releasing players to the IPL while Australia are playing”, said George Bailey.
While Pat Cummins will lead the side in the tests, Aaron finch will lead them in the ODIs. Josh Hazelwood will also be skipping the white ball format of the tour along with Glenn Maxwell who will be involved in his wedding during that time.
Five players of the white-ball squad have IPL deals. They are Marcus Stoinis, Mitch Marsh, Sean Abbott, Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Ellis and in the absence of a direct flight between Pakistan and India, the players would have to come to India most likely via Dubai, followed by a mandatory quarantine period.
“We have picked a talented and versatile squad with a number of challenges to juggle, including the tour structure of predominantly 50 over games, management of several multi-format players in the medium to long term; and our need to build experience and depth in preparation for two short-form World Cups within the next 18 months,” Bailey said in a statement.
