Fitness will be a challenge for Rohit Sharma – Ajit Agarkar

Former fast bowler Ajit Agarkar believes that while Rohit Sharma has all the qualities of a good leader, fitness will be a challenge for him. The Indian team will start a new chapter under the full-time leadership of Rohit Sharma from the West Indies home series.

Rohit Sharma has missed plenty of matches in the last few years owing to injuries. The batsman was unable to take part in the crucial SA series due to his hamstring, the same problem which kept him out of the NZ tour in 2020.

Agarkar believes that the predecessors of Sharma like Kohli and Dhoni were fitness enthusiasts which allowed them to take part in most of the matches.

I believe Rohit Sharma’s biggest challenge will be to remain fit. We have seen of late that he has got a few injuries. The captains who were there before him – Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni – their strength was that both were extremely fit and they missed matches very few times in their careers.” saif Agarkar.

There are also talks in the cricketing fraternity that Dravid’s disciplined coaching environment will be complemented by Sharma’s laidback attitude. Rohit has always been a part of the leadership group alongside Virat Kohli, K L Rahul, and Ravi Shastri. The duo of Sharma and Dravid knows very well that India is desperately in a need of an ICC event.

Rohit has made Mumbai Indians the most IPL franchise as they have 5 IPL titles till now. The West Indies will start from the 6th of February.
