The Indian team is packed with some energetic youngsters who are keen to establish their place permanently in the playing eleven. Rohit Sharma has been leading the side well ever since he took the mantle from Virat Kohli. While Chesteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya have been rescuers of the team at No.3 and 4 positions for years, the new players have stepped up their performances and have given them consistently. Sunil Gavaskar points out the guy that he believes not only has all the attractive shots in the world but also is a good-looking guy.

We are talking about Shreyas Iyer. The player has been in a sublime form which was evident from his innings against Sri Lanka. Iyer scored 92 and 67 runs on the Bengaluru track that was spin-friendly and tricky to bat on and played some delightful shots. Sunil Gavaskar while talking to the host broadcaster replied in confirmation “Yes certainly, he is looking like that” when asked whether the player was the “next big thing” in Indian Cricket.

Because anybody who plays the way he did…it is very attractive batting that he has, the shots that he has. He is a good-looking young man. So it all points to the fact that in the next six-eight months he could be the next big thing in Indian cricket,” he further added.

Iyer has earned the ICC Men’s player of the month in February. He was also awarded the man of the match award for his 50+ scores in both innings of the second test match.

Iyer has been awarded the captaincy of the Kolkatta Knight Riders for this year’s IPL. He captained Delhi Capitals last year until a shoulder dislocation ruled him out of the tournament. Rishabh Pant was then awarded the captaincy and Iyer was not retained by the franchise in November.
