The Gabba test match of 2021 between India and Australia will certainly go down as one the best test matches of all time. With a fighting comeback displayed by the Indians after the 36 all-out fiasco in Adelaide, everyone knew that the final day of the series was going to be a challenging especially for the Indians as they were given a target of 328 runs.
India lost Rohit Sharma early and the celebration of the Australians reflected a prediction of how the day is going to unfold for the depleted touring side.
While talking to GQ India, Shubhman Gill spoke about his experience of the series and of the final test match. Gill scored well in the three test matches that he was given a chance. He made scores of 45,35, 50, 31, 7 and 91.
Gill recalls the way Australians celebrated after dismissing Rohit Sharma cheaply. It was as if they knew the procession had started. They celebrated casually. Ho gaya kaam–types [Like their work is done].” Gill said
India saw off Australia’s pace attack till lunch. India’s score was near about 100 in the 47 overs when Shubhman Gill and Pujara took on the attack. Gill said that he wanted to hit every bouncer of Starc.
“The pull shots were off Starc, keeping in mind the shorter square boundary from that side. I felt that even if I got a top edge, it would clear the fielders and get me boundaries because he was bowling at good pace.”
The batting domination continued for a while before Gill out to 91. What followed was an unbelievable performance from the middle order, including the 89 from Rishabh Pant who saw India cross the winning lines. India had achieved the unthinkable and secured a 2 -1 victory with three wickets remaining and 2 overs to spare.
