Ind vs West Indies 2022: Dhawan, Iyer and Gaiekwad out of series due to Covid

The home series against the West Indies has run into the problems as Covid has entered into the Indian camp. The players who have tested positive are Shikhar Dhawan, RituRaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer.

Apart from the players, there are also Covid positive cases amongst the support staff, as told by the BCCI insider to PTI on condition of anonymity.

“There are multiple COVID positive cases among non-coaching administrative support staff. It could be between two to four people,” revealed the BCCI insider.

The India and West Indies ODI series will be held behind closed doors at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the emergence of Covid positive cases, it means that the three infected players will not be considered for the series as they would have to undergo week isolation followed by two negative results of RT PCR.

The emergence of the Covid cases in the Indian camp may influence the T20 series also as the West Bengal government had previously permitted a 75% crowd for the T20 series.

India would have to rethink their strategy of finding a suitable partner for Rohit Sharma. Either K L Rahul or Venkatesh Iyer could be tried out. India will be without the services of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami in both ODI and T20 series.
