India underestimated South Africa: Sunil Gavaskar after India’s disastrous tour of South Africa

Many people would not have betted on South Africa to defeat this Indian team, let alone whitewash them in the format where they are exceptionally good. After the Centurion Test match, it appeared that Indian batsmen will not have to grind too hard to score runs against the lively but inexperienced South African team.

Speaking to Sports Tak, Sunil Gavaskar opined that the Indian team underestimated the South Africans who are undergoing a transition. South Africa batsmen showed resilience and came back strongly when India set them up a difficult target of 240 runs in the Wanderers Test match. They continued the momentum in the third test match and won the series by 2 – 1. However, everyone expected the Indian team to bounce back in the ODI series. They didn’t bounce back but also suffered a whitewash, a rare in Indian cricket history.

No problem in the Indian team because of what’s going on between Ganguly and Kohli: Sunil Gavaskar

When the host pointed out that the Indian team may have lost their focus because of ongoing issues between Kohli and Ganguly, Gavaskar was quick to point out that it’s unlikely the case as the other players shouldn’t get affected by what is going on between Virat and Sourav. There are people in the cricketing fraternity who believed that Kohli was made to resign from the Test captaincy.
