IPL 2022: BCCI wants the entire IPL to be staged in Maharashtra, says sources

In the wake of Covid cases surging in India, sources have now revealed that the BCCI may be looking to host the entire IPL tournament in Mumbai and Pune. India recorded nearly 1,40,000 cases on Saturday and the sources have revealed to a leading publication that BCCI’s initial inclination would be towards Maharashtra for hosting the entire IPL. If things don’t work out that way, then the tournament may be hosted in the UAE again.

According to the report in Times of india, the India Board is zeroing on three venues of Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, and the Wankhede stadium. Sources mentioned in the report have clarified that even with the surge in Covid cases in Maharashtra, the state government will allow for sporting events if the restrictions are followed.

It is very likely that the matches in this year’s IPL will be played behind closed doors under a strict bio-bubble environment. Players and officials would be required to undergo RT-PCR/ RAT tests regularly. Given the billion-dollar revenue that IPL generates, BCCI is leaving no stone unturned to host the tournament keeping in the safety factors of the players and officials. UAE appears to be the decided venue if the IPL is not allowed in India due to Covid.
