The Mega Auction date that everyone was waiting for has been announced by the BCCI. Brijesh Patel, the chairman of the IPL governing council has said that the mega auction will be conducted in Bengaluru on the 12th and 13th of February. “Yes, the auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13,” said Patel. The GC also cleared the two new franchises based out of Ahmedabad and Lucknow to take part in the mega-auction. The IPL last year was held in UAE due to Covid. This year the IPL is slated to be held in India from the 2nd of April till the 3rd of June. Another news that people may not know is that Vivo will be exiting as the IPL sponsor and Tata will be replacing it.
Lucknow and Ahmedabad are the new franchises that will take part. Earlier on November 30th, the IPL teams retained three to four players and many big names were released by almost every franchise whereas there was news of some players willingly opting out of the retention process in order to fetch a higher bid in the mega auction. The eyes will be on the likes of David Warner, Rashid Khan, K L Rahul, Hardik Pandya. Yesterday, there was news that the Ahmedabad franchise is likely to choose Pandya as their captain. Both franchises also have the option of choosing three players which can include a max. of two Indian players (capped/uncapped) and one overseas player
Overseas option likely in surge of Covid
India is currently facing a surge of Omicron cases across all states. Like last year, if the cases become too high, then the BCCI will have no option that to host the IPL overseas.
