Kohli did not left Captaincy on his own, was made to do so: Shoaib Akhtar

While Kohli may have been dethroned from the ODI captaincy, there was a sense of belief that the Test captaincy is well-secured and will be led by Kohli only. However, a day after India’s loss to SA by 2 – 1, Kohli announced that he will step down from the test captaincy. Virat had earlier relinquished the T20 captaincy also after the T20 World Cup in Dubai.

Now Shoaib Akhtar has opined on the matter and the former fast bowler believes that Kohli was made to resign from the Test captaincy. “Its not that he left it on his own, he was made to do so. Isn’t it so? You tell me (Shoaib asking the reporter). This is not the best time for him but at the same time Kohli needs to see what is made of him. That needs to be proven, whether he is made of steel, or of iron. He is a great guy. No question about him. But do not try hard now. Just go out there, play cricket. He is a great batsman. He has achieved more than anyone else in the world.”

There have been speculations about the rift between BCCI and Kohli after he was demoted from the ODI captaincy for Rohit Sharma. While Ganguly told a leading publication that Kohli was insisted to stay on the T20 captaincy, Kohli denied it in the press conference and stated that his resignation move considered as “progressive” by the board members.

“People who have made big in their life are the ones who can handle big setbacks (like in the case of Kohli’s current scenario). He should take this as an opportunity and not keep bitterness. He should forgive the people and move on.”

After the 3 – 0 whitewash from the Proteas, the Indian team will now return back and will engage in the home series with West Indies for 3 ODIs and 3 T20s. The series will commence on the 6th of February.
