Kohli handing the captaincy is “dangerous” for the opposition: Glenn Maxwell

Australian and RCB batter, Glenn Maxwell believes that the non-captain Kohli will be more dangerous that the captain Kohli for the RCB. Kohli had decided to step away from the RCB captaincy also during the T20 world cup in October.

Kohli has undergone a significant transition in the last few months. From being a captain and core member of the leadership group, Kohli now plays as a player in all three formats under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.

Kohli has been under the observation of critics for not scoring hundreds and big runs for a long time. His last ODI century came in August 2019 whereas his last Test century came in November 2019 against West Indies.

“It is amazing for him to be relaxed a bit and actually enjoy the next few years of his career without any of that sort of external pressure. I think playing against him in earlier days, he was a fiery competitor, getting in your face. He’s always trying to impose himself on the game. Impose himself on the opposition,” he added.

RCB retained Kohli, Maxwell, and Mohammad Siraj and it was tough for the franchise to choose a captain apart from Kohli. Maxwell was also on the contender’s list to be the new captain, but the franchise eventually went in with Faf Du Plessis.

Maxwell has had great outings for the RCB in 2021 with 513 runs which included 6 fifties. The player was retained by the franchise for 11 crores after Kohli’s 15 crores.

Kohli had captained RCB in 140 matches out of which 66 were with wins and 70 were losses. 4 did not yield an outcome. The franchise came close to winning their maiden IPL title in 2016 when they had chased down half of the target of 211 in just 10 overs without the loss of wickets. However, a collapse in wickets and tight bowling from SRH, allowed them to win the title by 7 runs.
