Australia are to tour New Zealand in March 2022. All the 3 T20s will be played in the Maclean Park in the city of Napier. New Zealand cricket has also announced that it will host test series against SA only in Christchurch. The decision has sprung up as a part of measures so that the series does fall in jeopardy due to Covid. Wellington was scheduled to host the second test match between NZ and SA and also the first two ODIs of NZ and Australia.
“These risk mitigations are based on avoiding known COVID-19 hotspots, and include limiting air travel, limiting accommodation transfers and, essentially, operating in safer environments,” said NZ Cricket chief executive David White.
The Indian women cricket team is also to tour NZ in February this year and will play one T20 and 5 ODIs. All the matches will be played in Queenstown.
David White, the CEO of NZC believes that the Wellington cricket fans would be disappointment to not be able to see their star players in front of them.
“It’s a very difficult time for everyone,” he said.
Limiting the venues to one or two is now becoming a standard approach to host revenue-rich international series in order to minize the exposure to Covid. The PCB has decided to host PSL in Karachi and Lahore only. And it is likely that IPL will be held in the grounds of Maharashtra only.
