Mitchell Starc’s reply to Warne for his criticism

To say that Mitchell Starc had a difficult last year both on and off the field would be an understatement. The bowler was ineffective against India picking up 11 wickets and Australia went on to lose at the Fortress, the first time in 33 years. Starc also had to dealt with his father’s demise from Cancer.

The maiden T20 World cup win did not blanket Starc from the staunch criticism of Shane Warne. The former leg-spinner was in big support of Jhye Richardson for the Ashes. Australia went in with Starc and the results did not disappoint.

Starc took 19 wickets in the recent Ashes which allowed the home side to annihilate the English side. He has been awarded his first Allan Border medal for his performance in 2021.

Australia had a dream start to the Ashes campaign when Starc bowled shuffling Rory Burns on the very first ball. Days after winning the AB medal, the bowler was asked about the dismissal, to which he said, “You’re running in and trying to hit the stumps I guess. It was a straight half-volley on leg stump I think someone said,”

Starc was referring to Warne’s comment on Fox Sports “That looked like a half-volley at leg stump that he missed,” When asked whether the bowler had spoken to Warne about his criticism, the fast bowler answered that criticism doesn’t get on his nerves anymore like it did earlier and that he just wants to go about his cricket.

“What would you like me to speak to him about?” Starc replied “It doesn’t interest me at all. He’s entitled to his opinion. I’m just going to go about my cricket in the way I’d like to. I’ve got my family and support networks and I get to play cricket with some of my best mates. I’m pretty comfortable with where I’m at.”

“I went through periods years ago where seeing any criticism or different opinions [would] spur me on to stick it up [the critics]. A couple of years ago, I made that decision to get away from it all. I think that’s helped me stay pretty level.”

During the 2nd test match at Adelaide, Starc also became the 1st bowler to get 50 Test wickets in Day night match.
