There is no doubt that Virat Kohli put his heart and soul into captaining Team India and the results were evident over the years. His win percentage of nearly 71 and 58.82 shows how much India has been dominating in test cricket. On Thursday, Mohammad Kaif tweeted about the Indian team appearing formidable all of sudden. The message went viral and appeared more like a jibe towards Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri than sincere praise of the new leadership group of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.
Fans slammed Mohammad Kaif for neglecting the hard work done by the previous leadership group of Kohli and Shastri. Netizens believe that Kohli and Shastri deserved some respect for the formidable team India which is now playing under Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma has done everything right, till now
If we talk about Sharma’s captaincy, the player has proved his mettle by winning 5 IPL titles for Mumbai Indians. Rohit has been exceptional in making tactical decisions against Sri Lanka in the recent series. He was handed over captaincy by the BCCI in all three formats and there is a strong belief in the cricketing community that Sharma along with Dravid have the recipe for winning an ICC tournament for India, something which they have been desperately eyeing since 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni.
The unfortunate case of Virat Kohli as captain
While Kohli holds an exceptional winning percentage as captain, he was unable to secure an ICC trophy despite leading the team into the knock-out games on a number of occasions. The 2017 Champions Trophy, 2019 semi-finals, 2021 World Test Championship final were the occasions where a few minutes of bad play cost India the match.
The members of the Indian team will be involved in IPL from the 26th of March till the 29th of May.
