Ravi Shastri believes this wicket-keeper should be in India’s T20 squad for World cup

Ravi Shastri has returned to commentary after a seven-year coaching stint with the Indian team. The commentator and cricket analyst can be seen giving his analysis and also voicing his opinions. While Rishabh Pant has solidified his position as a wicket-keeper batsman, the former coach that Dinesh Karthik could be in contention for India’s World cup campaign in the coming months.

Shastri was speaking to Espncricinfo and heaped praises on Dinesh Karthik for his recent form for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Karthik has looked in good touch till now for his new franchise.

“He’s got the experience, he’s got all the shots…you’re also looking at a finisher now that Dhoni isn’t in the side. However, you must consider how many keepers you require – Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, and now Karthik. And if there’s an injury, he automatically comes in,” Shastri told ESPNcricinfo.

Dinesh Karthik thrashed the Bangladeshi bowlers in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy final

There are talks of promoting Rishabh Pant up the order in the national side due to his aggressive batting style, which has helped the side on numerous occasions. If Pant is promoted, then someone of the likes of Dinesh Karthik could very well play the finisher role which Dhoni used to play. Karthik is mostly remembered for his 2018 heroics in the Nidahas Trophy final where he thrashed the Bangladeshi bowlers in the last two overs of the game and snatched victory out of their jaws.

Karthik last played for India in 2019 against New Zealand. He got out cheaply in that match and India was shocked by New Zealand. After being left out from the Indian camp, Karthik is mostly seen commentating during India’s home and away series and also as a cricket analyst.
