There is no doubt that the likes of Mahendra Singh Dhoni command respect wherever he goes. The man who brought three ICC titles to India had a huge influence on almost everyone. There is this unspoken truth not only in Indian cricket and World Cricket that it’s better not to involve in an argument with someone like Dhoni. Ravi Shastri has now recounted a funny incident where he had no option other than to scream at Dhoni.
During the pre-match broadcast between CSK and SRH, Shastri told the host broadcaster about Dhoni’s love for football and how he had no option other than to shout at the Indian captain back in 2018.
It was in 2018 when India and Pakistan were scheduled for an Asia cup match. Shastri spotted Dhoni playing football with intensity and then made the coach nervous, so much that he shouted at Dhoni and yelled “Stop the game!”
Shastri had to shout at Dhoni for this reason
“He really enjoys it. And the intensity with which he plays, you know, it frightens you from the outside. You’re hoping he doesn’t get hurt. There was dew in the Asia Cup final, and I went skidding five minutes before the throw. I’ve never screamed so loudly in my life. ‘Stop the game!’ says Ravi Shastri. I said something along those lines.
“However, getting him out and leaving the football is impossible,” Shastri added further.
It was the match that India won by 9 wickets. Pakistan had scored 237 runs and India chased down the target in 38 overs, courtesy of the hundreds by Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan.
Dhoni is often seen playing football in his free time. On multiple occasions, we have seen him playing the game along with Bollywood celebs. He owns the club Chennaiyin FC along with Abhishek Bacchan and Vita Dani.
CSK is going through a tough phase and has lost all of its four matches till now under the captainship of Ravindra Jadeja.
