For the last 3 years, it’s a trend that the Indian middle order is not able to bail the team out of early wickets. The batting side has witnessed too many collapses in the last few years both in tests and ODIs. On Wednesday, India again suffered a collapse when it looked like they had the chase under control.
Speaking on his Youtube Channel, former Pak cricketer Salman Butt heaped praises about Rishabh Pant’s talent. The southpaw recently scored a test century in the batting fiasco innings of the team in the decider test match at Newlands. Pant got stumped while playing to deflect the ball going on his pad. The batsman appeared off-balance which allowed the keeper to dislodged the bails before the batsman could come back in the crease.
“Rishabh Pant has talent and is highly spoken by the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and other former Indian players. But the guy needs to get fit to deliver according to his potential. Once the likes of K L Rahul, Dhawan, and Kohli got out, it appeared there is no batting left in team India “
Indian-middle order is a concern: Salman Butt
The former left-hander reminded stable middle-order India that India afforded during the time of Dhoni. India was cruising along at 151 for two wickets when Kohli and Pant were at the crease. The middle-order then collapsed from 181 for three to 188 for six.
In the last seventeen years of the innings, India was able to score only 84 runs with the loss of five wickets including a fifty from Shardul Thakur. Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Venkatesh Iyer were able to score 16,17, and 2 runs only.
After losing the test series, India now is staring at the defeat in the ODI series also. The do-or-die match for India will take place on the 21st of January at the same venue.
