Rohit Sharma may not have the desire to take on Indian Test captaincy: Rashid Latif

After Kohli stepped down from the Indian test captaincy, eyes are on the BCCI to announce the next captain. There seem to be many potential candidates with the likes of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant. Harbhajan Singh has backed Jasprit Bumrah to be India’s Test captain. However, former Pak Cricketer Rashid Latif believes that Rohit Sharma is unlikely to be interested in captaining India in the test side.

Speaking on the Cricketbaaz Youtube channel, the former wicket-keeper batsman said “K L Rahul will not able to absorb pressure that comes from captaining Indian team. I personally believe that the likes of Rohit Sharma will not be interested in taking the Indian team to new heights at this age. He had to take Mumbai Indians to a new height which he already has. So I don’t think he will be interested to do the same for the Indian team at this age.”

Sharma is currently 34 years of age and there were speculations last year about rift between him and Kohli. Rumors emerged that Kohli even proposed BCCI to remove Rohit Sharma from the vice-captaincy owing to his age.

Rohit Sharma was unable to fly to SA as his left hamstring got injured a couple of days before departing. The stylish right-hander was recently appointed the ODI captain in December and there is a strong likelihood that he will be awarded the test captaincy as well. Critics believed that India lost the best chance of beating South Africa this time in their own backyard. South Africa shocked the world when they whitewashed Team India by 3 – 0, a rare series loss in Indian history.
