There is no doubt that Sehwag does not hold back in expressing his opinions on social media. The former cricketer is an avid watcher of the game and speaks his heart out about the cricketing activities. During the Gujarat Titans vs Lucknow Supergiants Match, Shubhman Gill’s reckless dismissal irked the former cricketer, and he said that the likes of him, Sachin Tendulkar, and Gautam Gambhir never played such cheeky shots before scoring runs.
Fans and netizens were not amused when Gill threw away the wicket after facing 3 balls in the chase of 159 runs. The batsman stepped out of his crease and attempted to play an aerial shot, with the ball landing safely in the hands of Deepak Hooda. The bowler was Dushmantha Chameera.
Speaking about his batting, Sehwag commented, “
“I believe he is an ODI batter. Because in T20 cricket, guys who can knock boundaries at will inside the Powerplay are the ones who succeed. That is the area in which he must improve.”
“He has made statements to the effect that he has learned certain cheeky shots, but that he does not need to play cheeky shots because of his batting. Even if he just plays regular cricket, he can get the team off to a stronger start “
Gujarat titans were under no pressure as the pitch looked decent to chase and the target of 159 runs was modest. The team had already scored 4 runs in the first over when Gill decided to take on the bowler Chameera in a bid to get off to a flying start.
“Gill, on the other hand, has to get there. He gets out after scoring 25-30 runs. Once you hit 60, 70, or 80, your strike rate will rise. That is when you are free to play. Did Sachin Tendulkar, myself, or Gautam Gambhir play those daring strokes as openers? No, I don’t believe so. Before being cheeky and scoring quickly, you can score runs.”
GT eventually defeated LSG comfortably with strong batting performances from Wade (30), captain Hardik Pandya (33), David Miller (30), and Rahul Tewatia (40). Their next match is against Delhi Capitals on 2nd April at the MCA Stadium.
Gill had earned his place in the Indian test squad after his brilliant batting performance in Australia, especially on the final day of the decider test match where his innings were instrumental in India chasing down a mammoth score to secure a historic series win.
