In what could be considered major news, cricket analyst Aakash Chopra said on his Youtube channel that someone told him about RCB’s plans to buy Shreyas Iyer at the mega-auction and that the franchise is willing to buy the player for a whopping Rs 20 crore.
RCB has retained Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammad Siraj on 30th November 2020. The franchise has to find a captain for the franchise as Kohli relinquished the franchise captaincy last year. RCB has around Rs 57 crores available in their purse and Shreyas Iyer has shown with Delhi Capitals that he has the brain of a leader.
“Someone has told me that RCB has kept Rs 20 crores for Shreyas Iyer.” said Aakash Chopra on his Youtube channel.
If that would happen, then Iyer will be the costliest player to be auctioned in IPL history. To date, Virat Kohli and K L Rahul have been retained for a whooping price of Rs 17 crore.
Iyer dislocated his shoulder last year before the start of the IPL and the Delhi Capitals chose Rishabh Pant to handle the captaincy. The Delhi Capitals finished on top of the table in the 2021 IPL season. Seeing the success that Rishabh Pant captaincy got for the franchise, they retained him alongside Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje
Spending nearly Rs 20 crore will cause an imbalance in the team: Aakash Chopra
Adding further to the discussion that RCB has kept Rs 20 crore reserved for Shreyas Iyer, the cricket analyst said that no team should spend that much money on a player and that doing so will only cause an imbalance in the team.
