Steve Smith believes these two Indian players are good candidates for Test captaincy

Despite having shown strong performance over the last couple of years, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Team India had faltered on crucial occasions in 2021, mainly at the World Test championship final and the T20 World Cup. The sub-par performance in the T20 World Cup, followed by the demotion of Kohli from ODI captaincy and the recent relinquishing of Test captaincy by Virat reflects that everything may not be well in the Indian Cricket Team.

Steve Smith who is having a good off-field time these days after winning the Ashes, engaged in a Q n A session with fans on Instagram recently. According to him, K L Rahul and Rohit Sharma are the likely candidates who will succeed Virat Kohli in the Test captaincy.

“Looking forward I’d say probably Rohit (Sharma)  or KL (Rahul)  are the two favorites”, said Smith.

Kohli enjoyed a phenomenal record by winning 40 test matches out of 68. The Australian batter congratulated Kohli and said “Firstly, congratulations to Virat who’s led the Indian team superbly well for the last six or seven years. He has done a terrific job.”

There was a time when the crowd booed Smith (for 2018 sandpaper scandal) during the 2019 WC match and Kohli requested them to calm down and show support and Smith has time and again heaped praises of Virat Kohli.

Smith is on the cards of many IPL teams and he is likely to be fetched at a very high price. The mega-auction will take place on the 12th and 13th of February in Bengaluru. Smith earlier played for the Delhi Capitals franchise.
