Everyone was caught by surprise when no franchise bid for Suresh Raina in this year’s IPL mega-auction. The left-handed dashing player has been a core member of the CSK franchise and also the right-hand of MS Dhoni for years. Now that it is clear that Suresh Raina will not participate in this year’s IPL, recent reports indicate that the player is likely to be called for a different role.
Suresh Raina is likely to be included in the commentary team for this year’s IPL. There are also reports that former coach Ravi Shastri has also been approached to do the commentary. The news was published in Dainik Jagran. According to the leading publication, insiders wanted the services of Suresh Raina after he went unsold in the auction.
While it is not clear why Suresh Raina went unsold but rumors suggest that his dwindling form was one of the reasons why the franchise did not invest in him for the next few years. There were also reports about the tiff between Raina and the CSK franchise as the player wanted the same size hotel room of Dhoni for his family and that the disapproval of the request made Suresh Raina skip the IPL 2020 in return.
If we talk about Ravi Shastri, he had already stated that he will be taking his time off after his coaching duties ended after the T20 World Cup. It was rumored that he was going to commentate in the Indian South African series. Shastri has confirmed time and again that he enjoys commentary and will be eager to do it soon.
The IPL will start from the 26th of march and will go along till the 29th of May. A total of 74 matches will be played in the entire tournament.
