These 3 Indian players could retire very soon

It can be said that the Indian team is currently in a transition state. With a change in leadership at the helm, the Indian team is looking at a couple of glories to achieve in the coming months and years. While the T20 World cup this year in Australia is the main focus, there is also the 50 over world cup and World Test Championship in 2023. India last time lost to New Zealand in the inaugural World Test Championship final at Lords.

There are certain players in the Indian squad who have become specific for the test format and given the bench strength that India currently has for the test side, it is very likely that these three Indian players could announce retirement this year. In this article, we are going to name those three test players.

Ishant Sharma

There was a time when Ishant was the spearhead of the Indian test side. The bowler was not able to retain his place in the ODIs after 2016 and his current form is certainly not up to his potential. The Indian think tank did not play Ishant Sharma in the South African tour, even when Mohammed Siraj was injured before the Cape Town Test. If speculations are believed to be true, then the think tank has already moved on from Sharma and with the change in leadership, the tall-lanky fast bowler might very well feel like bidding adieu to the game of cricket.

Ajinkya Rahane and Ajinkya Rahane

There is no doubt that the veteran duo has delivered some splendid knocks for team India over the years, however, their lean patch over a couple of years has been a concern for the Indian think tank. Pujara has been on and off after his heroics in the 2018 – 2019 Border Gavaskar trophy and Rahane hasn’t performed well too in the last few years except on a few occasions. The recent tour of South Africa was far from good for the duo. By dropping them from the upcoming Sri Lankan test series, the Indian selectors have given them an indication that the team can move forward with them too. The two are currently playing in the Ranji Trophy.

Both Rahane and Pujara have played 82 and 95 test matches till now and have scored 4931 and 6713 runs respectively.
