Hardik Pandya has been appointed as the captain of the Gujarat titans. The player was roped in for the coming years by the new franchise however it is in the public domain that Pandya has been struggling with his fitness for a long time.

Now that the player is about to return to cricket with IPL, he would first have to prove his fitness to the BCCI at the National Cricket Academy in Banglore. According to the BCCI’s rules, players, even for returning to IPL cricket, have to prove their fitness levels before making a comeback to cricket.

Last year, Shreyas Iyer dislocated his shoulder while playing for the Delhi Capitals, The player underwent surgery and had to prove his fitness before returning to the IPL last year. The same route will have to be taken by the all-rounder Pandya.

“Hardik will be at the NCA for next two days and appear in the various fitness tests. He is a centrally contracted cricketer and has not played any cricket since T20 World Cup in UAE,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Hardik’s main concern has been his bowling due to lower back problems. According to the sources, he did bowl in the camps in the Gujarat Titans Camp. However, it is also reported that Pandya is still bowling at 75% of his potential and that Team India and NCA Physios are monitoring him for his full-potential bowling fitness.
