Trevor Bayliss to become head coach of Australia?

Ever since the departure of Langer, eyes are on Cricket Australia to find a suitable replacement for their former coach. The disagreement between Cricket Australia, players, and Langer was widely covered by the media. After CA’s refusal to provide a long-term contract, Langer walked away with his head held high.

The former England coach who took the side to their maiden world cup win in 2019, reportedly held talks with CA officials recently and is a prime contender alongside Andrew Mcdonald, who is currently the interim head coach of the Australian men’s cricket team.

According to the Guardian, Trevor Bayliss has expressed his interest to become the head coach of the side. Langer’s departure from the head coach position caused an uproar as the former coach had recently taken the side to their maiden T20 world cup, followed by a hammering in the Ashes.

Andrew McDonald has a lot of support from the squad. Cummins applauded him recently after the Pakistan tour.

‘[McDonald] is just a great operator,’ Cummins said. ‘The boys absolutely love him. He’s very diligent, very thorough and strategic and organised. He’s a huge part of this tour win. It’s not my place to employ the coach but ‘Ronnie’ has been fantastic.’

While Langer has walked away from the short-term contract, there are reports that he is being persuaded by the ECB to coach the men’s side and bring some ruthlessness with his disciplinary style of coaching, something which a small group of the Australian squad did not gel with.

Bayliss led England to their maiden World cup win in 2019

Bayliss, on the other hand, had a significant role in England winning their 50 world cup in 2019. The former coach of England stepped away from England coaching in 2019 and Chris Silverwood was promoted from bowling coach to head coach. Bayliss is currently acting as the interim head coach of the London Spirit team after the untimely demise of Shane Warne.

Bayliss has also extensive coaching experience in the Indian Premier League. He coached KKR from 2012 to 2014 which also saw them winning the IPL title two times. He has worked with Sydney Sixers from 2011 to 2015 and Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2020 to 2021.
