In a news that will not please the SunRisers’ Hyderabad fans, Simon Katich had tendered his resignation with immediate effect. The assistant coach was reportedly not happy with some of the hefty buys at the auction and therefore decided to part ways with the franchise.

The SRH franchise was in the news last year when the likes of David Warner was not only stripped off from the captaincy but was made to sit in the dugouts. Warner led the franchise to its only IPL victory in 2016. The opening batsman expressed his displeasure about the way he was handled by the franchise.

The franchise has not any official announcement about departure of Katich but it is believed that his resignation is accepted and a new coach, Simon Helmot has already been brought in his place.

SRH retention choices last year were questioned by the fans as they not only relieved David Warner but also let go off Rashid Khan, who has done phenomenally well for the franchise over the years. SRH went with Kane Williamson (14 crores), Abdul Samad (4 crores) and Umran Malik (4 crores).

SRH has onboarded some heavy names in their coaching squad such as Brian Lara, Dale Steyn, Ton Moody, Muralitharan. However, the same cannot be said of the players who comprises the squad.

The franchise may sweat over the players they have chosen. Kane Williamson has an elbow condition that has not allowed him to play International cricket for the last three months. Apart from him, Bhuwaneshwar Kumar and Washington Sundar, none other players have had much experience at the international level.

It is believed that Katich wasn’t happy with the buys of Pooran (Rs 10.75 crore), Washington Sundar (8.75 crore) and Rahul Tripathi (8.50 crore), which he believed were too hefty for the franchise and that the plans to procure the players were not followed during the auctioning process.

Brad Haddin and Trevor Bayliss were let go by the franchise after the side’s dismal performance in last year IPL. Tom Moody will be the head coach for this season and Muttiah Muralitharan will be the mentor.
