Virat could have captained for 2 more years: Ravi Shastri

Speaking to Sports Tak, Ravi Shastri said that if wanted, Kohli could have captained the Indian side for another two years. India lost the SA test series by 2 – 1. Before the start of the series, many critics believed that this SA tour was India’s best chance to conquer the final frontier after 30 years.

While the loss was shocking, Kohli resigning from the Test captaincy after 24 hours took the limelight away from India’s loss back to the silent battle that seems to be going on between Kohli and the BCCI. Virat was dethroned from the ODI captaincy in the month of December. Rumors followed that Kohli wasn’t going to be a part of the ODI squad as a way to show retaliation for his captaincy removal. Kohli had to do a press conference in order and confirmed his SA tour participation. He, however, dropped a bombshell when he contradicted Ganguly’s version of events about the captaincy debacle from the T20 format.

“Decision to persist with Pujara and Rahane is with the current coach” : Ravi Shastri

Continuing his conversation with Sports Tak, Shastri talked about Pujara and Rahane and heaped praises on the veteran duo for the past performances. When asked about their place in the Indian team at the current form, Shastri replied that the decision to persist with the senior duo lies with the current coach. Rahane and Pujara have not performed consistently in the last two years. In the Wanderers Test match, the duo put on a great partnership of more than 100 runs in the second innings and helped India to set up a difficult target of 240 runs however, SA was too good in their second innings and chased down the target. The duo managed to score 43 (Pujara), 9 (Rahane), 9 (Pujara),1 (Rahane) in the third test. SA won the third test too.
