Virat Kohli refused to captain his 100th test match at Bengaluru – Reports

In what appears like a sour back and forth reply between the BCCI and Virat Kohli, the former Test captain has refused the BCCI offer to captain the team in his 100th test match at Bengaluru as a farewell from his Test Captaincy.

Kohli stepped down from the captaincy after India lost the test series to SA by 2 -1. The cold war between Kohli and BCCI began in December 2021 when selectors removed Kohli from the ODI captaincy. The rift between the two parties emerged when Kohli denied Ganguly’s version of events in which he stated that he asked Kohli to not relinquish the T20 captaincy whereas Kohli stated his decision.

Cricketing Pundits believed that India had the best chance this time to win their maiden series this time against the transitioning SA side but owing to batting collapses, India lost the chance. Sunil Gavaskar while speaking to AajTak, even commented that Kohli pre-empted his sacking from the BCCI and therefore, stepped down from the captaincy on his own.

It all started when Kohli announced that the T20 World Cup would be the last assignment as the captain. India’s hope of semi-finals crashed when they lost the first two matches of the World Cup.
